DHR welcomes the granting of planning permission for new National Children’s Hospital
The Liberties has been the home of DHR Communications in our (almost) 12 year history. The area is an important part of our brand and identity, and many of our staff live within a stones’ throw of our office on Francis Street.
Through our CSR and client work, we have become actively engaged in The Liberties, and we’re strong supporters of developments and innovations which can lift the local economy, while respecting the character and history of The Liberties.
Almost two hundred years ago, the Coombe Lying-in Hospital was founded to deliver safe birthing facilities to poor women in this area. Apparently, what prompted its foundation was the plight of two women who perished – with their children – in the snow in an attempt to reach a health service.
The beautiful portico of the old hospital is all that physically remains in The Liberties today. It’s located at the corner of The Coombe and Brabazon Street.
This week’s announcement that planning permission has been granted for the building of a long-awaited national children’s hospital on the St James’s site is something that we very much welcome and support here at DHR. It not only draws on the area’s history of medical care, but will be a great compliment to the innovation and services that are making their mark in contemporary times.
