Pat Carey works on a consultancy basis with DHR Communications in the areas of consultation management, public affairs and the provision of strategic advice to clients.

Pat has a strong background in public affairs, having served as a member of the Oireachtas from 1997 to 2011 and of Dublin City Council from 1985 to 2003.

Throughout his political career, Pat served in high-level roles, including Minister for Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs and Minister for Transport (2010 to 2011); Government Chief Whip (2008 to 2010); and Minister of State for Drugs Strategy and Community Affairs (2007 to 2008).  These roles honed his understanding of the sensitivities and complexities inherent in stakeholder engagement and public affairs.

Pat is an accredited mediator with wide-ranging experience in negotiation and consultation. He has mediated processes around the delivery of drug treatment and rehabilitation in communities around Ireland. He has also strong chairing, facilitation and negotiation skills.

Pat was a member of Dublin City Council for 18 years, during which time he served on the Governing Body of DIT and was a member of the City of Dublin VEC. Prior to his involvement in politics and public affairs, Pat worked as a primary school teacher and a community worker. He is a graduate of UCD and of Trinity College Dublin.
