Unique anthology of art, comics and illustrations at MINE Anthology Launch Night
Excitement is building ahead of the MINE anthology launch night which takes place Tuesday, 7th March, on the eve of International Women’s Day.
MINE is a powerful anthology of art, comics and illustrations that represent creative responses, both male and female, to the struggle for repealing the eighth amendment in Ireland. The anthology gives insight into a wide range of perspectives on this issue, with over thirty contributors.
Following a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign, a unique night of speeches and live performance will take place at The Workman’s Club, 10 Wellington Quay, Dublin 2, in support of the Abortion Rights Campaign. The launch will bring together artists and activists to celebrate their work and raise much needed funds.
A host of inspiring speakers will take the stage on the night, including actor and writer Tara Flynn, contributor to MINE, Linda Kavanagh, Abortion Rights Campaign spokesperson and Sarah Maria Griffin, who will recite her poem ‘We Face This Land’.
Named one of State Magazine’s ‘State Faces of 2016’ and GoldenPlec’s ‘Plec Picks 2016’, acclaimed Irish female pop-duo AE MAK will be on hand to provide percussive vocal harmonies and synchronised choreography through a punk-esque performance. The four-piece female band Mongoose will also perform their up-beat, acoustic “melty-pot music”, with flavours of jazz and folk.
Artist and creator of the MINE anthology, Karen Harte filled us in on the upcoming festivities: “We are so excited to launch the MINE anthology and share this wonderful collection of art, comics and illustrations. MINE is an artistic response to the struggle for reproductive rights and the campaign to repeal the 8th amendment.”
Copies of the MINE anthology, merchandise and prints from the anthology will be available to purchase on the night, with proceeds going towards the Abortion Rights Campaign. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/MineAnthology.
We hope to see you there!
