My week at DHR: Guest blog by Ellen Kane
Ellen Kane from Westmeath has spent the past week with DHR Communications on work experience. Ellen turns 16 next month, and will start her 5th year of secondary school in September. Here, Ellen (who is also our MD Catherine Heaney’s niece!) writes about her week at DHR:
From the moment I entered DHR Communications I felt welcome, the staff are all lovely, friendly people and made it easy to settle in to a new environment. This was my first time doing work experience and it was also my first time to live up in the city so I have learned a lot and I am grateful to have had this opportunity.
One of the things that I have learned from working here is that there is always an endless amount of things to do! All the staff are constantly busy. From going on photocalls to sending tweets for their clients, to trying to maintain a clutter free environment, there’s always something to do! And what I love about it is that you’re always doing something different.
I got the chance to go out on a photocall which I really enjoyed because it was a good opportunity to see the kind of work that DHR do. The photocall was at Peadar Kearney House. I got to meet new people and learn a bit about Dublin and how the government is trying to improve life for the residents in the city and I can honestly say I was very impressed!
As I live in the countryside, you can imagine how different this week has been for me. Not only have I learned a lot about the busy working life but also the busy city life! Honestly it’s like a different world up here but I love it! It’s a great chance for a lazy teenager to become more independent and take control!
In conclusion, I can say that I have thoroughly enjoyed my week working at DHR Communications and I feel that I have learned things that will definitely help me in the long run. I would like to thank all the staff for having me, they are great people who are committed to their work. I would definitely do it again!
